Go Wuhan Bats

“In 2019, with the backing of NIAID, the National Institutes of Health committed $3.7 million over six years for research that included some gain-of-function work. The program followed another $3.7 million, 5-year project for collecting and studying bat coronaviruses, which ended in 2019, bringing the total to $7.4 million.“-Newsweek

Gain-of-function. Have you heard of it? It’s a scientific term that means making existing viruses into new ones.

So Dr. Fauci, the head of NIAID through six presidents, who back in January claimed that the U.S. was at no risk for pandemic, involved U.S. money in Chinese gain-of-function work. And then when all hell broke loose, he became indignant that a market in Wuhan still sold live animals for human consumption: “Speaking on April 3, the US’ top infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci, told Fox News that all wet markets should be “shut down right away,” saying he couldn’t understand why they were still open.”

He completely Pooh poohed suggestions that this virus came out of a U.S. sponsored lab. “Dr. Fauci throws cold water on conspiracy theory that coronavirus was created in a Chinese lab” runs a headline on BusinessInsider online.

I think when you are in government as long as Dr. Fauci, you must have done your share of coverups and obfuscation. Otherwise, you’d have been out on your ears long ago.

You can’t change the truth, however. It is what it is. Getting the sequence of events to stick correctly is vitally important. Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it, after all.

Because Dr. Fauci opposes Trump on chloroquine, he’s a big hero to Democrats and a pariah to Republicans. I made the Dr. Fauci in my cartoon wearing an American flag themed vampire cloak because if the U.S. paid for gain-of-function work, who cares if it was a Republican or a Democrat initiative. And yes, inasmuch as vampire are blood sucking monsters that turn into bats, there’s some commentary there, too. As a paying supporter, just as if he were donating to any institution of higher learning, he waves a little Go Wuhan Bats flag. Somethings are bi-partisan, like it or not. Live with it. But wear a mask.
